THE HOLY TRINITY SUNDAY 3RD/4TH JUNE 2023
Dear Parishioners,
Happy Holy Trinity Sunday!
Few days ago, I read something that caught my attention. It was an image of two friends walking along a path. One of them asked a question: “What is the most important: the journey or the destination?” the other one answered saying: “the company.” It is the company, who we walk with, that enriches the journey, that makes the walk meaningful and special. All of us are on our own life journey. We make decisions that determine the next stage. We have lovely moments and difficult moments as well. There are aspects of our journey that we can’t choose, they are given as a part of life. But what we can choose is who we do this journey with, who we share our life with. The company that we choose gives meaning to all we do. I invite you to think, who is accompanying me on my life journey? Who helps me to make decisions? Who is part of my life? Who makes my life journey meaningful?
Thinking about all this, asking these questions, makes me think of the Holy Trinity. It is part of very nature our Trinitarian God, the Three in One, to be in relationship. And precisely it is the Trinity, the Three persons in One, who are on this journey. We cannot see them but we know that They are with us, accompanying us trying to help us find meaning at each stage of our lives.
In the second reading, St Paul says: “The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all.” St Paul had a clear sense of the Trinity! In that time, that they had just experienced Jesus’ walking with them, but they could discover that God the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit were all with them.
Grace, love and fellowship, these are three clear aspects that Paul gives us of the identity of the Trinity. Two thousand years ago they already had a lot of insight into the Trinity!
Grace is attributed to the Son, the Grace that goes beyond our weaknesses or mistakes because of Jesus’ saving action. The Love attributed to the Father that we hear about in the first reading where Moses describes God: “God of tenderness and compassion, slow to anger, rich in kindness and faithfulness.”. A Love who is unconditional giving us his Son for our salvation, as we hear in the Gospel. And the Fellowship which is attribute to the Holy Spirit, who is always present, always by our side as a fellow companion on our journey.
We know that Jesus built his life on God the Father and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit and that that constant relationship gave him the strength, confidence and love to accomplish his mission and to endure any difficulty.
Today’s feast can help us to invite the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit, again to be part of our life’s journey and to allow them to make it meaningful. We can’t know exactly what journey life has in store for us neither or where we will go, but we know that Their company will be with us every day.
Have a great week,
Anabel Gonzalez, FMVD
