THIRTETH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY – 28th /29th OCTOBER 2023
Dear Parishioners,
Care of those in needs, foreigners, widows and orphans is one of the primitive laws that is still valid even in our present world. Just like God helped the Hebrews when they were slaves in Egypt, God continue to help us in our time. We in turn are called to extend this help to one another, we are to extend God’s caring and healing to all men and women created in the image and likeness of God. We must not exploit others, but be kind and generous.
Jesus in the Gospels rekindled this call to love and generosity, quoting from Leviticus 19:18, “You must love your neighbour as yourself”. Jesus went on in the story of the Good Samaritan to tell us that our neighbours are all those in need. (Luke 10:29-37).
Kindness, generosity and justice can only come from God who out of His love made us. Thus Jesus, God made man through the womb of the Virgin Mary by the power of the Holy Spirit, told us that the greatest commandment is Love of God and Love of our neighbour. This God’s Love is “not ‘obey’ or ‘adore’ or fear’ or ‘reverence’. Love is not the warmth of companionship or of sex’’ nor about sexual orientations, love is been attentive and been generous to the less privileged and those at the merge of the society.
Love is about pulling out those who are under the bondage of the evil one towards God. It is about giving helping hand to those under all forms of addiction, to reclaim their original image in which they were created. Doing all these without seeking any reward is what true love is.
We pray that through the celebration of the Eucharist, which is the ultimate prove of Love, that God will transform us into living Eucharist at the service of humanity and to His glory.
