Reflection by Fr Jerome O Dukiya CSSp

FIRST SUNDAY OF ADVENT – 02nd /3rd DECEMBER 2023

Dear Parishioners

As we begin the awaiting of the Lord Jesus at the end of time, and his special coming at Christmas, the Mother Church offers us 4 weeks of reflection.

Isaiah the great prophet of the Messiah is one of the major parsonages we shall be encountering. After the return to Jerusalem from exile in Babylon the Israelites were passionately awaiting the Saviour. The ongoing conflicts in Israel and Palestine, (the struggle for home lands, and territories) clearly call to mind the need for the reign Jesus Christ the King of Peace in the life of the people and nations.

It is only in total acceptance the reign of God’s kingdom through the Messiah who is and who we are expecting at Christmas and at the end of time, that we can find lasting peace.

Paul in the second reading shows how a community like that of the Corinthians, which accepted Jesus Christ as the Messiah, is a Spirit filled community, benefiting from the work and fruits of the Holy Spirit which accompany all those who believe in Jesus Christ. As Christians, as people of faith we are call to manifest our faith through the power of the Holy Spirit by breaking all the bounds that are preventing us to bring Christ Jesus to our world.

As the Gospel admonished us, to stay awake and be ready for the Master. We can do this by reaching out to the poor and the most vulnerable in our society.

We should be ready at all time, we are call to daily conversion and practicing our Christian’s faith for the glory of God and service to humanity.
