Social action, social justice and concern for the environment are vital elements of our mission in building God’s kingdom. These are sure ways through which we can put our faith into action.
Social and environmental issues are closely related.
Those most affected by climate change are the poorest and most vulnerable, those of Minority Ethnic (but global majority) heritage. As Christians, JPIC encapsulates our work for justice of all kinds, generously supported by JPIC groups and benefactors.
Possible areas that might be covered under ‘Justice & Peace’ include: climate justice and the environment, racial justice, housing and homelessness, refugees and migrants, human rights, international development, beginning and end of life, poverty and unemployment, work and benefits, Fairtrade, ethical investment, equality and diversity, Israel-Palestine tensions, ending the arms trade, nuclear disarmament and promoting peace, campaign for change in London by mothers who have lost their Children to knife crime, as well as the theology and spirituality of peace and justice.
Just as Jesus drove away the sellers and moneychangers away out of the Temple, because his Father’s house was turned into a market place. Jesus is calling us through our social actions, driving by spiritual disciplines, and respect for the sacred to form a real community of love.
Since our body is that real Temple of the Holy Spirit, we should take good care of it. Respect of ourselves and others is very essential as Christians. Our Church community and environments should be respected and conducive for worship and prayers. We should be that tabernacle that where God dwells.
