REFLECTION BY FR JEROME O. DUKIYA

The greatest of all the commandment as Jesus Christ rightly told one of the Scribes that questioned him, is the Love of the Lord our God and the Love of the neighbour as we love ourselves.

This true and unconditional love is what is lacking in the fabrics of our society today. Things concerning God and religion has been relegated to personal choice.

Materialism, individualism and selfishness have taking over and these are the determined factors of our relationship with God and our Neighbour. Most of the Christians are mainly concern about what they can gain in return in the relationship with God and with their Neighbours.

True faith is about faithfulness, it is about trust, it is about hope and about total giving of oneself. Trusting in the divine mercy of God and in surrendering our will, self and all we have and are to the Glory of God and to the God of humanity.

This call to love by Jesus Christ is the manifestation of the kingdom of God on earth. We need dearly this kingdom of God in our today’s world. A world were people exploit one another for material and temporary gains. A world where laws are enacted for the sole reason of gains and pleasures. A world where the little and the less privileges are exploited and commercialized. A world where the aged people are seen as burdens and not as blessings.

We really need that sacrificial love that the Scribes and Jesus Christ talked about in the Gospel of today. For a better world we pray that the Love of God will continue to animate us in all our dealings with one another. May the Love of Christ be ours.
