REFLECTION BY FR JEROME O. DUKIYA CSSp.

The existence of God has been put to question by atheists, for them the world came to be through evolution. One of their claims is that Humanity is just another form of “higher” animals, and death is the end of human existence. Thus, for them there is no need for religion. Today as we come to the end of our liturgical year, the Church invites us to celebrate in solemnity of Christ the King of the Universe. For if truly the universe exists there must be the first course, the “first existent”, the origin from where every existent evolved.

Our first reading from the revelation or prophecy of Daniel, predicted “a noble human being on whom God confers all power and sovereignty on earth”. Jesus Christ the second person of the Blessed Trinity, is God made Man. The manifestation of the existence of God the Father who was before everything. This Jesus Christ, incarnated through the womb of the Blessed virgin Mary, is who we celebrate today as the King of kings and Lord of lords.

This celebration reminds us that, we owe our existence and our being, to the Love of the Almighty God who is the Alfa and Omega of all things. Since Christ is the King, we are all invited to be part of that Kingdom. Jesus Christ, rightly put it in the Gospel that his Kingdom is not an earthly kingdom but an everlasting Kingdom. The Church is inviting us to be part of this Kingdom, by being faithful to our God in prayer and in worship, and by being at the service of humanity. It is in doing these that we can live well here on earth, that Kingdom that God gave us. Our hope and faith is to continuing living with Christ forever even hereafter. Lord may your Kingdoms come.
