Divine Mercy Sunday Reflection
In the Shadow of the Cross, in the Light of Mercy
Today, as we celebrate Divine Mercy Sunday, the Risen Jesus enters the room of fear and confusion with a single word: “Peace.” He shows His wounds—not to shame, but to heal. To Thomas, He offers not a rebuke, but an invitation: “Put your hand here… Do not doubt but believe.”
In these days of mourning for Pope Francis, a shepherd who so often spoke of mercy as the “beating heart of the Gospel,” we find comfort in this Gospel moment. Just as Jesus met Thomas in his brokenness, He now meets a grieving Church — offering the same peace, the same mercy, the same patient love.
Let us pray that the soul of Pope Francis, who trusted deeply in God’s mercy, may now rest in the arms of the One who said, “Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.”
And may we, too, carry forward the mission of mercy — not just in words, but in lives that echo Christ’s compassion.
Jesus, I trust in You.
