REFLECTION

27TH SUNDAY YEAR C 5TH OCTOBER 2025

Endurance is the key message of today’s reading from Prophet Habakkuk. The righteous person lives by endurance, fidelity and perseverance. This prophecy that was for the Jews, is still relevant in our today. When we stay with the Lord, the Lord will not desert us. Paul the Apostle also used this passage in his letter to the Romans and Galatians, that we are justify by faith. Justification by faith but not by faith alone as Luther added, but justification by faith in action.

In the second reading addressed to Timothy and Titus, they were encouraged not to give way to the spirit of timidity. They are also to adhere to the sound teaching and to keep to already established tradition. Keeping to original established tradition as handed down by the Apostles, who received it from Jesus Christ and lived in the faith community, the Church, is much relevant in our world today. There are numerous acclaimed “Men and Women of God” going around confusing people with their self-proclaimed man-made traditions. We called to learn from the master’s feet through the Church, so that we may not be carried away by the self-acclaimed, teachers. Keeping to the true tradition leads us to true worship of the True God.

The power of faith is what is emphasised in the Gospel of this Sunday. Faith is not the recitation of creed but it is putting our trust in the power of God who saves. When we have faith in God and put our faith in action through service and in doing our duty, we have a reward that awaits us. Ours is to get the job done, do the job and the reward will come. God gives us rewards when we put our trust in God by our faith. Like the Master, Jesus who reduced himself to serve at the last supper, we are call to be at the service of our Brothers and Sisters. Faith and Good works equal salvation!!!
