3RD SUNDAY OF ORDINARY TIMES 25TH JANUARY 2026
The adult Jesus’ public ministry was a fulfillment of ancient prophecies, ushering humanity from the darkness of sin into God’s light. This transformative work involved a call to repentance and full acceptance of the Kingdom of God and His reign.
“The people walking in darkness have seen a great light; those living in a land of deep darkness—on them light has dawned.” (Isaiah 9:2:)
“The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand; repent and believe in the gospel.” (Mark 1:15:)
Christ’s light pierces the darkness of our present world, echoing Isaiah’s prophecy, and He is our Light and Salvation. St. Paul urged the Corinthians to live as children of the light, shunning division and embracing unity in Christ.
“The true light, which gives light to everyone, was coming into the world.” (John 1:9:)
“for you are all children of light, children of the day. We are not of the night or of the darkness.” (1 Thessalonians 5:5:)
Jesus’ ministry was an invitation to the Kingdom of God, extended to all as He called the Apostles. Empowered by the Holy Spirit, we are called to learn, live, and teach the Gospel. The Church continues this mission of preaching, teaching, and healing, calling humanity to repentance and the acceptance of God’s rule, just as the simple yet effective Apostles did.
“And he said to them, ‘Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.’“(Matthew 4:19:)
“But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses…” (Acts 1:8:)
Reflection Questions:
1. In what ways do you personally experience the “darkness of sin” in your life and in the world today?
2. How does the concept of the “Kingdom of God” and God’s rule challenge or encourage your current worldview?
3. What does it mean for you to live as a “child of the light,” and how can you actively avoid division in your relationships and community?
4. How can you better embrace the call to learn, live, and teach the Gospel in your daily life, empowered by the Holy Spirit?
