It is difficult to believe the current circumstances we are living. The pandemic is wreaking havoc worldwide. Every day we receive sad news and, added to this, sometimes the grey days are not helpful to lift up our spirit.
In this atmosphere Jesus in his Word says “The time has come and the Kingdom of God is close at hand”. How can we understand this message? What is the Word trying to say to us? Jesus’ times were not easy too. Oppression, injustice, illness without cure, poverty, etc. In that social context He raised his voice.
What is the Word of God trying to tell us? Open your eyes, open your ears to another sight, to another voice.
God was among them; the Kingdom of God was among them. He is among us too. Open our ears to another message that is different to the everyday news and believe that He is close at hand. His Word may then give us hope, strength, peace – that peace which we need to face this time.
May we listen to His Word and believe what we read. May we meditate, reflect, pray His Word to nourish our hope.
This third Sunday of Ordinary Time is also the Sunday of the Word of God. The letter to the Hebrews 4:12 says “For the Word of God is living and effective”. May we nourish our faith by praying with His Word and the Gospel, day by day!
