This weekend we celebrate the greatest gift from God to us: His Presence among us! He did not want to stay far away from us, no. He wanted to remain present among us… and he is!
One of the last messages that Jesus gave to his disciples before went to the Father was: “I am with you always until the end of this world” (Mt 28:20)
Indeed, He fulfils His word! He is with us every day, every moment. He is really, truly and substantially present in the Eucharist.
Who are we that God wants to be present among us, to share with us, to dwell in us?! As Scripture says, “What other nation is so great as to have their gods near them the way the Lord our God is near us whenever we pray to him?” (Dt 4:7) I think we must be very important people!!
The Old Testament expresses many times the unconditional love of God to us. Maybe we do not always follow his advises but he is still faithful to us, as we read in Deuteronomy 7:7:
“The Lord did not set his affection on you and choose you because you were more numerous than other peoples, for you were the fewest of all peoples.
But it was because the LORD loved you and kept the oath he swore to your ancestors…
Know therefore that the Lord your God is God;
he is the faithful God, keeping his covenant of love to a thousand generations of those who love him and keep his commandments.”
When Jesus says, “This is my blood, the blood of the covenant, which is to be poured out for many,” (Mk 14:24) He is keeping his covenant of love for us!
We have a God who is close to us, who is willing to share with us what we are living every day of our lives. Hopefully we may grow in our friendship with Him.
God bless, Anabel, FMVD
