Reflection by Sr Anabel (15/08/2021)

Dear Parishioners,

Happy Feast of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary!

We celebrate Mary full of Grace. God chose her to be Mother of his Son, Mother of Jesus. She did her job so well that Jesus did not want to be in the Heaven without her! He took her from the earth to the Heaven to be with him! He wanted to have his mum closer!

The first reading speaks about the Mother of the Child of God who was to rule all the nations. Mary is that woman, what an important mission she has! Mary’s role is essential in the History of Salvation. She said “YES” to God. She did not know what would happen after she said “YES” but she was available to God. She listened to Him and believed Him. Within the simplicity of her life, she recognised Him as her greatest wealth. Mary’s life is a proclamation of God’s presence in the world. Mary’s prayer (Sunday’s Gospel) helps us to understand her faith. She was the “lowly handmaid” of the Lord, the one who was always ready to help Him with His project of salvation. After two thousand years we still call her blessed. How amazing was your faith Mary! May we borrow just a bit of it?

My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord

and my spirit exults in God my saviour;

because he has  looked upon his lowly handmaid.

Yes, from this day forward all generations will call me blessed,

for the Almighty has done great things for me. (Luke 1: 39-56)

Mary, as Jesus’ Mother lived many situations that were not easy, however she remained always with Him, believing in God’s plan. She was able to teach and help the disciples after the Resurrection of Jesus. She played an important role in the life and faith of the first Christians. She is able and happy to continue helping every person who asks her for help. Today, we may ask her for guidance and strength in all that we are living.

God bless,

Anabel Gonzalez, FMVD
