18TH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIMES 2ND AUGUST 2026

As we celebrate the Parish Feast of St. John Vianney, the patron saint of parish priests, this Sunday’s readings take on a special meaning for our parish community. They invite us to rejoice in God’s abundant love and to recognise that our parish is not simply a place where we gather, but a family united in Christ through faith, worship, and service.

The First Reading from Isaiah speaks of God’s invitation to a joyful banquet, a symbol of His generous gift of salvation. This image reminds us that the Church is a welcoming home where all are invited to encounter God’s mercy and share in His blessings. St. John Vianney dedicated his entire priesthood to extending this invitation, spending countless hours celebrating the Eucharist, hearing confessions, and leading people back to God. His life reflected God’s open invitation to every sinner and seeker.

In the Second Reading, St. Paul proclaims with confidence that nothing can separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus. These words were lived out by St. John Vianney, who persevered through personal struggles, spiritual trials, and physical exhaustion because he trusted completely in God’s unfailing love. His example encourages our parish family to remain steadfast in faith, knowing that God’s grace sustains us in every circumstance.

The Gospel of the multiplication of the loaves reveals Jesus’ compassion for the hungry crowd. He transforms scarcity into abundance and gathers everyone into a joyful meal. This miracle points directly to the Eucharist, where Christ continues to feed His people with the Bread of Life. It also reflects the mission of every parish: to become a place where no one is left hungry for love, hope, forgiveness, or belonging. Inspired by St. John Vianney, we are called to share generously the gifts God has entrusted to us so that others may experience His abundance.

As we celebrate our Parish feast, these readings remind us that joy is at the heart of the Christian life. Our celebration is more than a festive occasion; it is a renewal of our commitment to be a Eucharistic community that welcomes all, serves one another with charity, and proclaims God’s saving love. May the intercession of St. John Vianney inspire our priests and every member of our parish to become faithful witnesses of Christ’s compassion, so that our Parish may continue to be a place where God’s love is experienced, celebrated, and shared with all.
